WHY WE BELIEVE WHAT WE BELIEVE: FORMING A BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW
Description: How do we live in today’s cultural climate with a Biblical worldview? Does the Bible apply to our lives? How are we allowing the world to form our theology? As Christians, it is vital that we are able to understand and articulate why we believe what we believe.
Is the inerrancy of Scripture still relevant in our context today? Is God the true author of the Bible? Is His Word infallible? The answers to those questions tremendously impact how we read and apply God’s Word within the context our lives.
WHY WE BELIEVE WHAT WE BELIEVE: THE DOCTRINE OF THE TRINITY
Description: It’s interesting when faith finds its way into the Media. We have bylines and idioms that we use to talk about “Christianity” very broadly. There are so many groups that call themselves “Christian” that it begs the question: What is a true believer? ...Michael teaches about the Doctrine of the Trinity using supporting texts from Deuteronomy and Matthew.
WHY WE BELIEVE WHAT WE BELIEVE: THE DOCTRINE OF INSPIRATION
Description: Why we believe what we believe about Inspiration is not important to our faith, it is crucial, because if indeed this is God’s message to man, rooted from God to us in these forms we hold today, it is the message of hope, life, truth, and salvation to which we ascribe and which we hope to share with others. Is the Bible the Word of God, or not?
WHY WE BELIEVE WHAT WE BELIEVE: THE DOCTRINE OF CHRISTOLOGY
Description: “A defining question for a Christian is, “who was Christ?” and I don’t think it’s sufficient to conclude that he was a great thinker or a philosopher, because actually He went around saying He was the Messiah. That’s why He was crucified: He said He was the Messiah. So, either He was the Son of God–or He was nuts.” Who do you say Jesus is?
WHY WE BELIEVE WHAT WE BELIEVE: THE DOCTRINE OF SALVATION
Description: The word “saved” is an odd word and we assign a lot of meanings to it, which get especially confusing when we add religious overtones. But to own and to be able to articulate why we believe what we believe about how a person is saved is perhaps the most important theme of the Bible. ...Michael teaches on the Doctrine of Salvation–or, the big word, Soteriology.
WHY WE BELIEVE WHAT WE BELIEVE: THE DOCTRINE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (Part 1)
Description: Concerning the Doctrine of the Holy Spirit, some of us come from stoic backgrounds and Holy Ghost language gives us the heebie-jeebies. Others of us come from more pentecostal or charismatic backgrounds and we tend to put great emphasis and trust in our experiences of what we perceive to be the Holy Spirit. But what, specifically, does Scripture tell us about the person and work of God's Holy Spirit?
WHY WE BELIEVE WHAT WE BELIEVE: THE DOCTRINE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (Part 2)
Description: The Holy Spirit, which seals our Salvation, is a person at work. How does He empower us, fill us, indwell us? Unless we stop, rest, and spend time studying the work and role of the Holy Spirit in God’s Word, it will remain a mystery to us. But I have confidence in His word and in His Spirit that as we spend time there, we will understand more and more His role in our lives.
WHY WE BELIEVE WHAT WE BELIEVE: THE PERSON AND WORK OF SATAN (PART 1)
Description: Did you grow up in a home that taught that Satan was real? Maybe you were taught that when anything bad happens, any consequence that isn’t what we intended, it’s spiritual warfare. Satan is behind it. Or perhaps you were raised in a home where you were taught that Satan is a myth, no more real than nursery rhymes. But we need to understand him from a biblical context, not with what we grew up with or what we have glommed together in our own search for meaning, if you will. In this episode we’ll look at texts that help us build a theology of the Doctrine of Satan.
WHY WE BELIEVE WHAT WE BELIEVE: THE PERSON AND WORK OF SATAN (PART 2)
Description: As an adversary, satan hates Christ. He is our enemy and desires that we would live eternally separated from God. Yet God, in His sovereignty, is using Satan.
A look at the results of a recent survey (Evangelicals Are Confused about Christianity's Core Beliefs, Survey Says - Christian Headlines) only confirms the necessity for Christians to have a Biblical worldview. How Your Theology Determines Your Morality - The Christian Worldview
It’s been said that “the most important thing about a person is their view of God.”
If you think about it, one’s view of God—from a high and holy reverent view of God based on Scripture to the atheist who rejects that God exists to every view of God in between—is the fundamental driver for how one thinks and lives.
For example, why wouldn’t an unmarried couple live together before marriage or why wouldn’t a mother encourage her son to be a girl if they don’t believe in the God of the Bible? After all, it seems reasonable that an unmarried couple should “try things out” before getting married. It seems reasonable that a boy who likes girl things “should transition to who he really is.”...
The End of Absolutes: America’s New Moral Code - Barna Group
Christian morality is being ushered out of American social structures and off the cultural main stage, leaving a vacuum in its place—and the broader culture is attempting to fill the void. New research from Barna reveals growing concern about the moral condition of the nation, even as many American adults admit they are uncertain about how to determine right from wrong. So what do Americans believe? Is truth relative or absolute? And do Christians see truth and morality in radically different ways from the broader public, or are they equally influenced by the growing tide of secularism and religious skepticism? If I asked you “Who is God?” what would you say? Well, if you asked the average American 30 years ago, nearly three-quarters would define God according to a basic biblical definition. But according to a new Barna survey, barely half today would define God that way (and even many of that half are confused!).

Distressing “State of Theology” Results Released by Ken Ham
Theology matters. What you believe about God, his Word, and the person and work of Jesus Christ matters. Poor, weak, and inaccurate theology leads, at best, to faith that produces no, little, or bad fruit, is stagnant, will not stand the tough times that will inevitably come in a sin-cursed and broken world; or, at worst, such wrong beliefs won’t save you because you don’t truly understand or believe the gospel of Jesus Christ!

30% of Evangelicals Say Jesus is “Good Teacher, but He Was Not God” by Ken Ham
“Who do you say that I am?” That question Jesus asked Peter in Matthew 16:15 is the most important question anyone can answer. And from cover to cover, the Bible answers that question with the truth that Jesus Christ is the eternal God and the Creator, who became a man to die on the cross in our place. But a biblical Christology (the doctrine of the person of Jesus), like so many other essential doctrines, is slipping from our churches.

Results of "State of Theology" Survey: Evangelicals Need to Study the Bible - Generations Radio
The Dire State of American Theology
Many people who identify as Christians don't know their Bibles. According to a recent study, while 61% of Millennials profess to be Christians, only 2% have a biblical worldview as defined by Barna. Ligonier Ministry's "The State of Theology" reveals why: Many self-identifying Christians don't know the basic tenets of their faith. This theological confusion negatively affects people's worldview in a way that impacts society for the worst. The time has gone for true Christians to be complacent. As the world strays further from God's truth, we must hold fast to it. That starts with knowing what it is.
Biblical Illiteracy: What are the signs, symptoms, and solutions? w Allen Parr
Why is biblical illiteracy so rampant among Christians today? Why is biblical illiteracy so dangerous to the church? Why is it so important to know and understand what the Bible teaches? An Interview with Allen Parr of The Beat.
Untethered (Wretched) How do we know what truth is? Is truth relative? Is truth up to the individual to decide? The fact is that truth is objective not subjective. God and His Word is the authority, the standard for truth.

GUEST: KEN HAM, author, Founder and President, Answers in Genesis
With a growing and aggressive segment of America in full-throated opposition to God and those who follow Him, the question has become “How can biblical Christians remain faithful and raise their children to do the same?”
Ken Ham, the founder and president of Answers in Genesis, Creation Museum, and Ark Encounter and our guest this weekend on The Christian Worldview, recently released an important book entitled Will They Stand: Parenting Kids to Face the Giants.
God uses certain means to bring about salvation, while He is sovereign over all of it. 51% of evangelicals confirm that their parents were the most important or significant influence in their becoming a Christian. 15% credit a spouse or a sibling as the most important influence in them coming to faith. And, only 3% credit a Sunday School teacher, a VBS instructor, or some other ministry in the church, and 4% would credit a concert or a crusade. Dads and Moms are critical to the cultivation of souls in this field.
The WorldView in 5 Minutes | 72% of Evangelicals came to faith before 18 on Podbean A new Infinity Concepts study has confirmed that the single greatest influence in Evangelical Protestants becoming Christians is their parents. The generational factor is the most powerful and significant in the development of the Christian church.
8 to 12-year-olds on track to abandon Christian beliefs - The WorldView in 5 Minutes
Dr. George Barna at the Arizona Christian University released a new report on the spiritual beliefs of children in America.
The report notes, “'The foundational beliefs held by 8- to 12-year-olds put them on track to abandon biblical Christianity in record numbers.”
Today’s children reject five beliefs central to the Christian faith. Only a minority of them draw moral guidance from the Bible, believe in absolute moral truth, embrace faith in Jesus Christ as the means of salvation, identify serving God as their chief purpose in life, and consider success to be consistent obedience to God.
Sinful to Send Kids to Public School? Are Pastors Disobeying God? - The Generations Radio Program
What can we say for pastors who are not teaching a biblical worldview? Only 12% of youth pastors and 13% of teaching pastors have a biblical worldview, and they tend to be weakest on areas of morality. Why are pastors weak on God’s law? And, what about pastors who send their children to public schools? Should a concerned congregant speak to a pastors who sends his children to public schools that do not teach the fear of God as the beginning of wisdom and knowledge?

The Gen Z folks have taken up Sodom on steroids — now 28% up from 4% twenty years ago. Is there a connection between a life of idleness, prosperity, and escape and Sodom? Sodom was filled with an “abundance of idleness,” pride marches, and prosperity. . .and they “strengthened the hands of evildoers.” Both young teens and old were beating down Lot’s doors to get at the angels. How will we ever return to a rule of law? Even the pagan states realized this was essential to retain a social order.

The Bible says, “See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ” (Colossians 2:8). Notice the words—“philosophy, empty deception, tradition of men, elementary principles of the world”. And notice what these do—“takes you captive” or enslaves people from believing the truth of Christ and His Word. This sums up what America’s new woke religion has done to the minds and hearts of both non-Christians and Christians. An empty, deceptive, man-based, elementary philosophy has quickly taken captive our leaders, corporations, schools, and even churches. Read transcript / listen here. [T]he American Bible Society released their latest findings from the 2022 State of the Bible report.
The study found 92% of Bible Users say the Bible has transformed their life. Even 38% of non-Bible Users say the same. Bible Users are defined as those who read the Bible at least three to four times a year on their own.
The report also found people who are “Scripture Engaged” were the most likely to strongly agree they can forgive others. “Scripture Engaged” individuals are impacted daily by the Bible and regularly read and engage with the Bible.
2 Peter 1:19 says, “We also have the prophetic word strongly confirmed, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.”

This is an older survey (May 2011), but the reality remains the same: most Americans own a Bible, often more than one (not to mention the amount of Bible apps that are readily available), but they are not reading it. Owning a Bible without reading it is like owning exercise equipment and never using it. "A good start is to move from being a Bible owner to a Bible reader. The presence of a dusty Bible on the shelf won’t make a person live more biblically any more than the presence of a diet book in the home will make one live more healthily. For the Bible to get into our hearts and lives, we need to get into the Bible." Most Americans Own a Bible, So Why Aren't They Reading It? - Fox News
Ligonier Ministries and LifeWay Research released their 2022 State of Theology survey.
The survey found U.S. adults are increasingly rejecting the accuracy of the Bible while increasingly embracing unbiblical views of sexuality.
Even Evangelicals are increasingly rejecting biblical doctrines of Christ and Scripture. More Evangelicals are also embracing a secular worldview on issues like homosexuality and so-called “gender identity.”
You can view the survey through a special link in our transcript today at TheWorldview.com.
The survey concluded by saying, “the people of God must continue to obey the Great Commission by communicating the whole counsel of God in biblical evangelism and discipleship. The need is great, but the power and promises of God can equip the church to bring truth and light to a deceived and dark world.”
The Apostle Paul said in Acts 20:27-28, “I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God. Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which He obtained with His own blood.”

"How many of these 'Christians' were nominally so because of their cultural upbringing? If they grew into early adulthood and left the faith, did they ever really believe in the first place? Are we simply witnessing the ripples of a rock that sank long ago?"
A recent Pew Research Center study estimates based on various scenarios that Christians in America will become a minority in the next two to five decades. Since the 1990s, the study notes, the number of Americans leaving Christianity has been accelerating, as the number of those identifying as nonreligious or “nones” has ballooned over the last couple decades. The State of Theology in America - The Christian Worldview with David Wheaton
Description:
GUEST: Dr. Stephen Nichols, Ligonier Ministries
Theology is defined as “the study of the nature of God and religious beliefs.” So “what do Americans believe about God, salvation, ethics, and the Bible?” That is how Ligonier Ministries frames The State of Theology survey that they and LifeWay Research partner together to produce every two years.
If you’re a Christian and are paying attention to the shift away from God and Scripture that has taken place in our country over the past 75 years, you won’t be surprised to learn that Americans have an unbiblical, syncretistic worldview, which is a mix of flawed human reasoning and remnants of religious moralism borrowed from Christianity.
The survey made 35 theological statements to over 3,000 respondents of differing backgrounds and regions. Respondents could answer “strongly agree, somewhat agree, not sure, somewhat disagree, or strongly disagree”.
Here are a few examples of the theological statements in the survey:
- “God accepts the worship of all religions, including Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.”
(67% agreed with this falsehood, as did 56% of Evangelicals). - “Jesus was a great teacher, but he was not God.”
(53% agreed with this lie, as did 43% of professing Evangelicals) - “The Bible has the authority to tell us what we must do.”
(52% overall agreed, with 94% of Evangelicals agreeing…thankfully)

1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 (LSB)
Much of the false doctrine that we see in our time can be at least partially seen to emanate from a misunderstanding of what faith is. Paul tell us in Ephesians 2:8 that Christians are saved by grace through faith, and that not of ourselves, it is the gift of God. So, whatever faith is, saving faith has as its source something other than our fallen nature.
To understand what genuine saving faith is, let us take a deeper look at this something that has been made difficult to understand, but is actually quite simple. Faith is made up of three things: knowledge, belief, and trust. Knowledge always comes first. Read more: https://mikeratliff.wordpress.com/2024/01/31/what-is-faith/

A new report from Pew Research evaluated religiously unaffiliated U.S. adults.
About 28% of Americans are “nones,” calling themselves atheists, agnostics, or “nothing in particular.” That’s up from 16% in 2007.
Most “nones” believe in a higher power but do not attend religious services. They also believe religion does some harm but may also do some good.
Only 17% of religious “nones” are atheists; 20% are agnostic; and the vast majority are “nothing in particular” at 63%.
Also, those who point out hypocrisy in the church as their reason for rejecting Christianity are making a logical fallacy. A claim stands or falls based on the validity of the claim, not based on the actions of its followers. I would ask them, "By what standard do you judge hypocrisy? God's objective standard? Or your standard, your subjective opinion?" They have to assume or presuppose a standard to begin with. Unless they begin with God's unchanging standard then they are left with their own arbitrary standard which is no standard at all. Or as D.L. Moody stated, “The best way to show that a stick is crooked is not to argue about it or to spend time denouncing it, but to lay a straight stick alongside it.” God's word is the standard by which we judge everything else.
In addition, I would ask them, "Do you attend any meetings, concerts, events, or go to any place for any length of time where hypocrites may be present? Or do you ever hang out with a group of friends with the chance that one or more of them may be a hypocrite? If so, you don't even keep your own standard. Now who is the hypocrite?" To paraphrase Voddie Baucham, Come join us (at church) -- there's always room for one more hypocrite!

Why do more and more Americans identify as religious “nones”? And how should Christian parents and educators respond? We’re using the SOAR method to break down a report from the Associated Press.
This is just more evidence that we are living in an increasingly biblically illiterate society... What is also interesting is that the unknown word was "hallowed" (be thy name) which means holy. I think that it is interesting because many in the culture (they are unregenerate) do not view God as holy. As I have stated before, most have a low view of God and a high view of man. Jesus said, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). Jesus didn’t say, “You will know a truth.” He didn’t say, “You will know your truth.” He said, “You shall know the truth.” God’s truth stands for everyone.
Kennedy Classics: Absolutes In A Relativistic Age Sermon: Everything's relative! Certainly you've heard that phrase before, used to justify all sorts of things, but is it really true? Does what is right or wrong, true or false, only depend upon your situation? Millions now believe that to be the case. This sermon exposes the flawed logic behind that kind of thinking. American universities have been on the forefront of preaching moral relativism—the idea that truth changes according to the situation--for decades now. This bold message by the late D. James Kennedy was delivered on the campus of Yale University in 1993, called "Absolutes in a Relativistic Age." |

70% of Americans say, “I’m spiritual.” - The World View in 5 Minutes
As more people are leaving organized religion, a new survey from Pew Research found that 70% of U.S. adults say they are spiritual. And about a third of those say they are not religious. Those who identify as spiritual, but not religious, are less likely to believe in the God of the Bible compared with those who say they are spiritual and religious. The spiritual, but not religious people, tend to believe in some higher power or spiritual force in the universe. They also are more likely to believe that spirits and spiritual energies can be found in animals, parts of nature, cemeteries, and crystals. Romans 1:21-23 says, “For although they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.” (Source: The World View in 5 Minutes)

Religious Riptide: Eastern Spirituality Comes West – A Short History - Christian Research Network
