Description:
GENIUS is a chilling movie based on the life and tragic murder of John Lennon. It's chilling because it reveals what people will do for money. There are ordinary people out there who would kill you. All they need is the right amount of money and the belief that they won't get caught. Just before he was murdered, John Lennon told Playboy magazine that he didn't want to die at 40. Ironically the famous singer was gunned down at the age of 40 by a man who killed him just because he wanted to become famous. Many think that John Lennon was a musical genius. His music has crossed cultures and even generations--the Beatles have sold more than 2,303,500,000 record albums, and in June of 2012 they hit number one on iTunes. They are as big now as they ever were and they're half dead--with the tragic loss of Lennon and Harrison. Ready for a "reality check?" More than 90% of abortions happen because of the same reasons women use birth control - "Would interfere with education or job, Don't want to be a single mom, Can't afford a baby" - not the "hard cases." Perhaps that's where we start: by reducing the 90+%. One of the more vivid biblical portraits of the Lord Jesus is the paradox of His presentation as a lamb and also as a lion. In the magnificent book of Revelation, the scene in heaven unfolds as the great seven-sealed scroll is revealed. The apostle John aches when no one is found worthy to open the scroll, but one of the enthroned elders says: “Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book…and, lo, in the midst of the throne… stood a Lamb as it had been slain” (Revelation 5:5-6). Perhaps the best way to understand the dual emphasis of the lamb and the lion is by gaining the perspective of these portraits revealed in the rest of Scripture. I don't love that they mocked Jesus and put a crown of thorns on his head (John 19:2), but it is a reminder to me that Jesus was willing to suffer for my sake, a sinner. And that He really is a King! And just like a royal king's approaching is announced with the sound of trumpets, so too will Jesus' return be announced with the sound of trumpets! He came as a lamb, but He is returning as a King!
"And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other." (Matthew 24:31) |
