What is Diwali? Diwali, also known as "Deepavali", is the festival of lights celebrated by Hindus, Jainists, and Sihks over a five-day period.
This holiday is like a New Year’s celebration and falls around the month of October and November since it is based on the Hindu lunar calendar. The origins of the celebration is found in the epic India story of the Ramayana, in which the Hindu god, Rama comes back to his city after having defeated the evil Ravana. Rama’s return to his city after 14 years is met with joyous celebration which is commemorated and remembered in the holiday of Diwali.
