Heather Clark of Christian News Network examines the heretical best-selling book "The Shack," which has been made into a movie that will be released in March 2017. There's little doubt that many professing Christians will flock to theaters to view the film.
Heather Clark writes:
Christian leaders who have issued warnings about William P. Young’s bestselling novel “The Shack,” which portrays God as a woman and espouses universalistic beliefs, state that if the scheduled national film release is faithful to the text of the book, its distribution could “far outweigh” the harm already done to souls through the printed page.
“If the film is a faithful portrayal of the events and the theology of the book, then every Christian should be gravely alarmed at the further advance of beliefs that smear the evangelical understanding of the truth of the Bible,” James B. DeYoung, author of “Burning Down the Shack: How the ‘Christian’ Bestseller is Deceiving Millions” and an acquaintence of Young, told Christian News Network.
As previously reported, “The Shack,” released in 2007, is stated to have sold approximately 20 million copies and has been translated into 39 languages. In 2013, Lionsgate Entertainment obtained the rights to turn the book into a film, which is now scheduled to be released in March 2017 and is currently being promoted nationwide.
“The Shack” tells the story of a man named Mackenzie “Mack” Phillips who faces a crisis while on a family vacation as his youngest daughter Missy is abducted and presumably killed in an abandoned shack. Years later, the grieving father receives a note from “Papa,” who tells Phillips that it has “been a while” and to meet up at the shack the following weekend.

‘The Shack’ to be the next blasphemous blockbuster film
Amy Spreeman of Berean Research warns: "If you’re looking for the God of the Bible in this book, or thinking that this is a great film to give your kids a 'whole new perspective on God' (we hear that one a lot), then I’m going to speak up and say that there are some things you ought to know about how and where this story veers off track into dangerous waters."
She writes:
Let’s cut right to the chase: Are there heresies in The Shack? Yes. Scroll down. There are more than a dozen of them. Movies about God always make big bucks at the box office, and the film adaptation of The Shack will more than likely be a top ticket seller when it hits the big screen. Now the official trailer is out, and the emotional impact in just this two minute clip already seals the deal that this film will be a blockbuster.
The film hits Theaters March 3, 2017.
I can already imagine The Shack Bible studies, sermon series and of course the social media hype, not to mention busloads of small groups fellowshipping and praising “Papa” for another opportunity to share Jesus. But which Jesus? We know that the Jesus of the Bible is very different than the one author William P. Young wrote about in his mega-bestseller.

From the Lighthouse Blog: Before Watching The Shack Movie, Read This – The “Inspiration” Behind the Movie and Eugene Peterson’s Connection
The Shack movie clearly violates the 2nd Commandment: “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth” (Exodus 20:4). Any image made to represent the invisible God is the sin of idolatry and it is for this reason alone that no Christian should watch this movie!
Tim Challies writes:
My foremost concern with The Shack—the one that will keep me from seeing it even for purposes of review—is its visual representation of God. To watch The Shack is to watch human actors play the roles of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I take this to be a clear, serious violation of the second commandment...I will not see the film, even to review it, because I will not and cannot watch humans pretend to be God.

Eric Barger and Dr. James. B. De Young discuss "The Shack" on Take A Stand! TV
According to one book reviewer that I heard (a reputable source) and also some book reviews that I read below (also from reputable sources), William P. Young, in his new book, denies essential Christian doctrine (i.e. the sovereignty of God, man's depravity, the exclusivity of Jesus Christ and the Gospel, the need for salvation, penal substitutionary atonement, Hell, etc.). According to the reviews, Young fully admits to being a universalist. He says that we are all the children of God. He says that everyone is going to Heaven and that no one is going to suffer in eternal Hell. Make no mistake, William P. Young is an absolute heretic just like Rob Bell and the like. This man is fully Emergent in his beliefs (see: Evangelicals and Universalism by David Cloud - Way of Life). Stay far away from him, his teachings, books, and movies (The Shack). They are poisonous and full of Satan's blasphemous lies!
