The complete Inaugural Mass of Pope Francis (PBS NewsHour)
The New Humble Pope.
When Pope Benedict XVI's successor, Jorge Bergoglio, was announced as the new Pope, the one word that many used to describe him was "humble." The Italian pope, born in Argentina, is of the Jesuit order which is known for their vows of poverty and work among the poor. Pictures and articles have surfaced revealing that as an archbishop, Bergoglio took the public bus and cooked his own meals. When it was announced that he would be known as Pope Francis, the connection was quickly made to St. Francis of Assisi, who renounced his wealth to live a life of poverty and service to others. Many have rejoiced that this is just the kind of humble leader that will further ecumenical relationships and win greater favor for Roman Catholicism.

Is Pope Francis a "brother in Christ"? Luis Palau answers @EdStetzer on #TheExchange
Mike Gendron says:
Luis Palau must not know that when anyone preaches a gospel contrary to the one the apostles preached, they are to be accursed (Gal. 1:6-9). The distortion of the pope's gospel includes baptismal regeneration, justification by baptism, justification by faith plus works, indulgences for the remission of sin, purgatory for the purification of sin, law keeping for salvation and participation in the never ending-representation of a Eucharistic Christ on an altar to satisfy divine justice.
The Papacy as Seen Through the Lens of Scripture by Mike Gendron
It is clear that the first Jesuit pope will have a more pronounced devotion to Mary. He announced that he will be praying to her for the protection of Rome. Did anyone notice that the new pope never mentioned the name above all names - the Lord Jesus Christ. Many are calling him a very humble man, but by taking the title of Holy Father, a title reserved for God alone, he is not demonstrating humility. In fact it may be the most arrogant and blasphemous transgression he could commit. Jesus prayed to the one and only Holy Father, asking Him to sanctify His people in the truth of His word (John 17:11, 17). The Lord Jesus is the only Head of the true church, a church He purchased with His blood, so that in everything he might be preeminent (Col. 1:18).
I recognize Pope Francis is victim of deception. He is blind to the light of the Gospel (2 Cor. 4:4), and as a result, he will lead 1 billion Catholics more deeply into deception. He is a product of centuries of religious tradition that nullifies and opposes the Word of God. Referring to the spiritually blind religious leaders of His day, Jesus said, "Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be rooted up. Let them alone; they are blind guides. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit." (Mat 13:14-15). As I watched the news today, I had great compassion for the thousands of people who assembled in St. Peter's square to give adoration and praise to a man who blasphemes God, prays to Mary and embraces a false gospel. May God grant repentance to the many victims of deception that do not know they are deceived.
